Drew has expertise in Primary education, educational leadership and exemplary classroom practice. Drew has been a headteacher and has a wealth of experience teaching across all stages in primary school.

Background

Drew has been teaching since 2006, spending over ten years in a diverse range of primary schools. He has taught across the key stages, from Early Years to Year 6. For nearly the last four years he has been a headteacher of an outstanding school. He currently serves on the Diocesan Board of Education.

He has worked as a mathematics specialist teacher, assessment adviser, and an advanced skills teacher, supporting both schools and individual teachers improve their own practice. His own teaching practice has been graded by Ofsted as outstanding. His interests are mathematics education, pedagogy and curriculum, and educational leadership.

Drew is interested in all aspects of mathematics education in both primary and secondary school. He has researched the use of thinking skills in mathematics, by using Concept Cartoons to improve pupils’ ability to subtract. He has been involved in a project with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) to develop a best-practice hub for calculation across the key stages. Drew is soon to start a new project, researching how best to provide mathematics continued professional development to teachers within their own school setting.
