Global Chaos Map Project - GSI seminar

31 October 2018, 13:00 - 14:00
Cambridge campus

Global Sustainability Institute ident

Part of the Global Sustainability Institute's lunchtime series, this research seminar explains the Global Chaos Map Project (GCMP).

Based on the concept that NATURAL RESOURCE INSECURITY + SOCIAL UNREST = DEATH, we scanned reports published since 2005 on the subjects of water, fuel and food insecurity shocks, and plotted figures based on the resulting deaths on an interactive map.

This macabre research is important in order to understand the escalating instability that results from limited resources, compounded by climate change, growing populations, conflict and other factors.

We hope this map can be a useful tool, to help predict and inform early responses to resource insecurity and social unrest on national and international levels.

There will be a presentation, followed by a Q&A with the researchers.

It is free to attend, and open to all, although please note that this research touches on sensitive topics, including conflict and suicide, that some may find distressing.
