The United Kingdom Research Office (UKRO - the Brussels outpost of RCUK) reports that the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation has given further clarity on the proposed underwriting of EU funding.
The Government now confirms that successful bids for Horizon 2020 funding made before the UK leaves the EU will be guaranteed and backed-up by UK funds. Crucially, this applies to projects in progress on the day of Brexit, as well for those where the application is made before Brexit and the project announced as successful after the date of Brexit. Furthermore, this also applies to two-stage funding calls where the stage one application is made before the date of Brexit.
We should be aware that some details are yet to be clarified during Brexit negotiations. For more information, see the UKRO FAQs on Brexit (updated regularly).
