The Foundation for the Sociology of Health & Illness has a mission to promote and improve social scientific research, education and scholarship in its field. To this end, the foundation offers funding with different aims, all helping to develop researchers and disseminate knowledge through the field.

1) Research Grant Development Awards

These grants provide funds to enable the development of a full grant. The expected outcome of these awards is 'a full grant application to a major national or international funding body', along with publications as appropriate. Up to £6,000 may be awarded to support activities leading to the full proposal, which should be high quality, multidisciplinary, and innovative.

Deadline: 1 March 2017

2) Symposium or workshop support grants

Conferences and workshops in the field of sociology of health and illness may benefit from this sort of funding. £3,000 is available for a two-day event, or £2,500 for a one-day event, supporting events addressing key issues in the field. Of particular note from the funding webpage is mention that 'The trustees are particularly keen to support meetings that promote discussion and debate on interdisciplinary themes of wide public relevance, and meetings with an international or comparative dimension.'

Deadline: 1 March 2017

3) Postgraduate international conference travel awards

Current PhD or MPhil students at UK institutions, or early career researchers (within three years of their PhD) may apply for financial support to attend 'a recognised international conference outside the UK where the paper can make a relevant contribution', within the field of the Foundation. The funds may be used for registration costs, travel, and accommodation, and awards are available up to £600.

Deadline: 1 April 2017
