The term 'impact' may seem like just a buzz word, but when looking at the funding landscape, the ability to demonstrate how your research is affecting your field, wider academia, the surrounding community, country or even world is vital, if not mandatory, to securing most funding.
There are multiple arguments for and against this – of course funders want evidence that what they're supporting is influential in some way, but this may leave out research for the sole purpose of expanding knowledge and, in some ways, works against the basic scientific premise of uncertain outcomes before performing a study. On the flip side, if you're passionate about your research, discerning ways it can impact others can come quite naturally.
Regardless of how you feel about it, impact is here to stay, and to help you understand how to achieve it, we've compiled a list of helpful tips and tools:
