23 October 2017, 18:30 - 21:00
Diary for My Children (1982) is the first in a trilogy of autobiographical films by the celebrated Hungarian woman director Marta Meszaros. The central character, Juli, is a teenage girl who has returned to Hungary after World War II as part of the new communist ruling class. Her growing disillusionment with the Stalinist system, in which she is implicated, allows the director to give very personal expression to the tensions and conflicts which led to the Uprising which began on 23 October 1956.
