Dr Vahid Parvaresh
‘Just because of the tax and many other reasons’:
Speaking vaguely in political debates Dr Parvaresh will discuss the frequency and function of vague expressions (e.g. something, sort of) used in the 2016 U.S. presidential debates between Hillary Clinton and her rival Donald Trump. The data under scrutiny include transcripts of the televised debates (circa 42137 words). The observed differences will be explored with regard to the personality, career, and professional differences between the candidates and to the different communicative purposes they seek to achieve.
No booking is required for this event.
