Dr Martin Zeilinger is co-curator of the Toronto-based Vector New Media Festival and Lecturer in Media at Anglia Ruskin.
In this talk, Martin Zeilinger will contextualise his curatorial practice with ongoing debates on videogames as an emerging art form. Taking creative modes well recognised within the sphere of experimental cinema (such as found footage, expanded cinema, structural film, etc.) as key reference points, Martin proposes that experimenting with videogame technologies is ideal for rethinking critical ontologies of film and video, and cinema as such.
His talk focuses in particular on how videogame technologies facilitate the expansion of film and video practices in the direction of performative, generative, interactive, and activist work, and will include screening and discussion of representative examples.
