A large amount of data is generated from the exponential growth in use of online transactions, social media, emails, videos, studios, logs, images, health records, sensors and mobile phones.
These data are potentially extremely valuable in increasing productivity in businesses and evolutionary breakthroughs in scientific research when these can be transformed into knowledge. We perform research on how to manipulate, use, store and exploit huge amounts of data using data mining, classification and clustering methods, efficient use of storage, and data sharing between stakeholders. We develop real-time intelligent decision support and knowledge management schemes for data-intensive applications particularly in healthcare, transportation, smart cities and cyber security.

Intelligent modelling and Big Data mapping for the analysis of connectivity and regeneration of European cities
This project is funded by the Excellence Initiative programme of the Università Degli Studi di Bergamo. It is a cultural and scientific exchange project between:
As well as collaboration between academic colleagues within our universities, this project also promotes the visits of research students from our universities. The students will carry out research activities within the framework defined by the project.

SmartLink is an external co-operation project funded under Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (EMA2). The project focuses on fostering international cooperation between 9 European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and 11 HEIs in emerging Asian countries through the promotion of mobility at all level of studies and training for students, PhD candidates, Post-doctoral researchers, academics and administrative staff.

FUSION is an external co-operation project funded under Erasmus Mundus. This project aims to foster partnerships of emerging Asian countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, China, India, and Thailand) with the EU countries (Bulgaria, France Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, and UK) to reinforce the existing collaborations developed through the EU funded projects. The key objective of the FUSION consortium is to enhance the capacity for international cooperation between universities in the Asian and EU countries by facilitating transfer of people, know-how, culture and best practice in training the next generation of researchers and academic staff.
