If you’ve ever considered writing a textbook, this session might interest you as Dr Kevin Roe has just published the second edition of his own book with Oxford University Press. He’ll talk you through the entire process of writing a textbook from idea to having the book on a shelf. The workshop will start from the first contact with a publisher, drafting a proposal, contracting and writing. The challenges of obtaining permissions from other publishers, copy editing, indexing and peer reviews will feature alongside the most contentious issue – choosing a front cover! Kevin will talk about costs and income too but don’t expect to be able to buy that Aston Martin or gold plated mug as a result of your efforts. Writing a textbook can be rewarding emotionally but it’s hard work and the challenges are only revealed with hindsight.

You can also join remotely by accessing the session on Adobe Connect. You may have to update your Flash drive. An Adobe Connect app works very well on mobile devices and the appropriate version can be downloaded from the additional downloads section.
