Dr Sebastian Rasinger of Faculty of Arts, Law & Social Sciences will discuss his experience with using a mixture of criteria-based marking and letter-based grading in the Department of English and Media. Based on analysis developed through a Learning and Teaching Project in 2016/17, Sebastian will look at how the use of clear marking criteria attached to letter-based grade bands can be used to clearly differentiate between student work at the top end of the grade spectrum – and avoid the quasi-capping of marks.
