Develop your understanding of the theoretical and practical elements of working with primary-aged children. Many of the lectures and assignments will build on your current knowledge and experience.
Modules span a wide range of topics, from childhood learning and development to safeguarding; research methods to professional practice. All of which will provide a solid basis for professional development and further level 6 study.
Alongside lectures, you’ll learn on the job, so you’ll need to have or get a support role (paid or voluntary) in an early years or primary setting.
By the time you complete the course you’ll be able to work confidently in a variety of early years and primary settings, understand the relevant regulations and above all, be able to provide high-quality care and education to young children.
The course will also develop your learning skills – and provides a solid foundation for level 6 studies, teacher training or academic research in the early years sector.
This course is excellent preparation for any number of early years and primary roles, as well as further study and teacher training.
We’ll assess your progress using a mixture of coursework and essays, module assignments and activity-based work. The professional practice modules are assessed on a pass/fail basis.

The course fee assumes that you’re studying at half the rate of a full time student (50% intensity). Course fees will be different if you study over a longer period. All fees are for guidance purposes only.
You can pay your fees in the following ways.
Most English undergraduates take out a tuition fee loan with Student Finance England. The fees are then paid directly to us. The amount you repay each month is linked to your salary and repayments start in April after you graduate.
If you choose not to take out a loan you can pay your fees directly to us. There are two ways to do this: either pay in full, or through a three- or six-month instalment plan starting at registration.
We offer most new undergraduate students funding to support their studies and university life. There’s also finance available for specific groups of students.

A minimum age of 18. 120 UCAS tariff points. GCSE(s) required: GCSE at grade C or above in English (or any other Level 2 English qualification), appropriate Level 3 Integrated Qualifications Framework (IQF) Qualification (CWDC) with current or recent experience in childcare.
Access to a suitable children's and young people's working environment. Commitment to study and work in the sector. A minimum of 400 hours working in a suitable children's workforce environment; this is flexible and the breadth of students' expertise/experience will be considered. Commitment to the work experience component. ICT competence sufficient to make effective use of word-processing and email facilities. Access to ICT facilities at home and/or in the workplace. Qualifications can also be evaluated for Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). Current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service check) required.

We don't accept AS level qualifications on their own for entry to our undergraduate degree courses. However for some degree courses a small number of tariff points from AS levels are accepted as long as they're combined with tariff points from A levels or other equivalent level 3 qualifications in other subjects.
