If you’re studying nursing, midwifery or operating department practice with us, and your course includes a placement at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, you can apply to live on-site in Harston House.
Harston House is managed by Sanctuary Housing Services Ltd (SHSL). You’ll live with other nursing, midwifery or operating department practice students.
Harston House is currently being refurbished so please be aware that some building work will be taking place, and you may need to move rooms during your tenancy.
Harston House has 260 bedrooms, arranged in corridors of 12-14 rooms. Some of these rooms are currently closed for refurbishment.
Each bedroom has a single bed, a desk with drawers, a chair for the desk, and a wardrobe with drawers. There’s also a sink with mirror/light and vanity unit.
Most corridors have two bathrooms with showers, one shower room and two toilets.
Internet is available through a company called Keysurf. You can choose from speeds of 2, 10 or 20 Mbps – and buy a special compatible router to turn the signal to wi-fi for a one-off charge of £50. (Please note that normal routers will not work with Keysurf broadband.)
There’s a security entry phone in every room.
Smoking is not permitted in bedrooms or anywhere on the Addenbrooke's site.
You’ll share a large kitchen with 12-14 others and have a lockable cupboard for your own food. Some corridors have an extra, smaller kitchen.
All the kitchens have a fridge/freezer, cooker and kettle. However, they don’t have microwaves.
Communal areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and toilets are cleaned once a week. You’ll be responsible for cleaning your own room.
Addenbrooke's Hospital is 2.5 miles from Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus, where you’ll have your lectures.
Lots of bus routes stop at Addenbrooke’s, including a Park and Ride service. This is a good way to get to campus – journey times are about 30 minutes. Some buses go to Cambridge railway station (less than two miles away) which has regular trains to London King’s Cross.
Bicycle racks and car parking are available at Addenbrooke’s.
Complete our hospital accommodation application form, and send it back to us by post, email or fax (details are on the form). We’ll check that you’re eligible and send your form on to Sanctuary Housing Services Ltd (SHSL).
You’ll be offered accommodation for one academic year. Normally, accommodation is offered to first year students and priority is given to those whose home is more than 35 miles away from their study site.
There’s high demand for hospital accommodation so we can’t guarantee a room. We suggest you apply as soon as you’ve firmly accepted a course offer.
