Are you a talented athlete in a sport for which we do not have a club?
Could you complete against some of the best student athletes in the country?
If so, there are a number of British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) individual events which students can represent us in even if we don't have a recognised club for that sport.
For current details of the individual competitions that are taking place, visit www.bucs.org.uk and select the sport you’re interested in. BUCS host championships in the following sports:
Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Canoeing, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Climbing, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Modern Biathlon/Pentathlon, Orienteering, Pool, Rifle, Sailing, Snooker, Snowsports, Squash, Surfing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Trampolining, Triathlon, Wakeboarding, Weightlifting and Windsurfing.
This year we took 26 Anglia Ruskin students to BUCS Nationals who competed in Boxing, Badminton, Swimming, Judo and Athletics. We brought home 8 medals, 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze which we won in Judo and Boxing. We are very proud of all the students who competed for Anglia Ruskin. You can view images, videos and updates from the weekend by searching @activeanglia and #ARUBUCS2016 #BUCSNationals on twitter.
In the previous years we’ve supported athletes to compete in BUCS individuals at the BUCS Nationals and at various events throughout the year. In the last two years, we’ve won a total of 14 medals, including five golds. If any of our students are selected to represent a university or BUCS representative team, we’ll do our best to support them. Recently we’ve supported a student to represent a home nations pool team and supported two judokas at the European University Games.
The Sport and Active Anglia team will support you if you’re competing in BUCS championships by providing financial and organisational support. If you’d like to be supported to compete in a BUCS championship, please contact our High Performance Sports Coordinator.
