We had a fantastic turn out at the Cambridge Half Marathon this year, with many of our team completing it for the first time. Our army of runners were highly visible in bright magenta t-shirts and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the new, one-lap course. The new route saw the competitors run all the way out to Grantchester, a very different landscape to the city centre section of the course. This year we had an added ARU presence at the event, our navy and gold mpv’s were placed on the course with the race clocks attached to the roof.
Adam Tapley was our fastest runner and he completed the race in a time of 1.21:49, which is a great achievement. He said ‘I was really pleased with the way I ran, it felt really good and I ran 8 minutes quicker than last year’. He also said ‘it was good to see ARU supporting us and to wear the t-shirt’.
All the runners appeared to be pleased with their performances, especially with the new addition of an ARU ‘psyching team’ to help them round the 13.1 miles. Claire Rossato, who led this team, explains ‘Applied Sport Psychology students took part in the 'Psyching Team'. This involved talking to runners before the race and cheering them on around the course. The day went brilliantly, various runners around the course seemed to appreciate our support and everyone involved had a great day’.
A big thank you to all of our supporters on the day. All in all, it was a successful day for the ARU team and we will be back next year! If you would like to start running at Anglia Ruskin we offer free running groups on the Chelmsford and Cambridge campus http://www.anglia.ac.uk/sport/social-sport/timetable
