Conservation area appraisals, public realm assessments and placeshaping studies

We take a holistic approach to the built environment. We recognise the value of listed buildings and buildings with group significance, and we understand the vital importance of place and spaces: the public realm and natural environment surrounding such buildings.

Our appraisals comply with English Heritage best practice and the latest legislative framework, including the Planning (Listed Building and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.

Who would benefit?

  • Local authorities including parish councils.
  • Amenity and special interest groups.
  • Building owners and consultants.

Architectural design reviews for heritage sites

Many older and heritage buildings and places of significance present particular challenges to owners, neighbours and local communities. We can advise on architecture and design, and how best to develop and restore such places.

Our team can provide expert witnesses on development proposals, for planning inquiries and other investigations. We also provide clients with site-specific appraisals, using the combined expertise of our range of architecture, planning, building surveying, construction and engineering specialists.

Who would benefit?

  • Local authorities including parish councils.
  • Building owners.
  • Planning consultants.
  • Historic building trusts and amenity groups.

Energy-efficient building management and energy cost reduction

Our consultancy projects and energy-efficiency studies help clients to reduce their energy use, carbon footprint and the wider management costs of heritage buildings.

We specialise in appraising historic fabric, ventilation, and building management systems to improve facilities management, including user-comfort and heritage value. This allows owners and managers to optimise building use, while also contributing to the enjoyment of users and visitors, and the conservation of built heritage.

Who would benefit?

  • Commercial building owners and managers.
  • Local authorities and other public sector owners.
