Richard has been in the optical industry for nearly thirty years as a dispensing optician, contact lens optician, regional manager, practice owner and optometrist and is now completing a PhD in Optometry at Anglia Ruskin University, whilst lecturing and maintaining a working role in the hospital eye service and private practice.

Richard attended City and East London College in 1985 to become a Dispensing Optician. Having qualified in 1988 has held various roles within the profession. In 1989 Richard qualified as a Contact Lens Optician and continued to work as a practice manager, regional manager and practice owner until 2005 when he returned to education studying at Bradford University for a degree in Optometry.

Having started at Anglia Ruskin University as a post graduate teaching assistant in 2010 has progressed on to full time lecturing, whilst studying for a PhD in reading and visual difficulties of deaf children.
