Background

John is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Member of the College of Optometrists, UK and Founder Member of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics. A graduate in optometry from the University of Melbourne, Australia, John also completed a Clinical Masters degree in Melbourne and a PhD in physiological optics at the University of Houston, USA.

After a post-doctoral fellowship in neurophysiology at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, Canada and a short period as research fellow in Houston, he returned to Australia to establish the Clinic Research Unit at the then Victorian College of Optometry. In late 1997 he moved to Aston University in the UK to take up a lectureship in optometry and, in January 2001, moved to Anglia Ruskin University. John is a registered optometrist with the UK's General Optical Council and the Optometry Board of Australia.
