Dr Ilona Boniwell heads the International MSc in Applied Positive Psychology (I-MAPP) at Anglia Ruskin University (UK and France).

Dr Boniwell also teaches positive leadership at l’Ecole Centrale Paris and HEC Business School, as well as consults businesses and educational institutions around the globe as a Director of Positran www.positran.co.uk, a boutique consultancy dedicated to achieving transformation through positive psychology. Dr Boniwell wrote or edited eight books and multiple scientific articles, delivered over 150 keynotes and invited presentations, founded the European Network of Positive Psychology (2001), organised the first European Congress of Positive Psychology (2002), was the first vice-chair of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA, 2007) and the founder and programme leader for the first MAPP in Europe (2006). She is a current columnist and a regular blogger for the Psychologies (UK, France) and Positive Psychology (France) magazines.

Research interests

  • Perceived time use: factors that contribute to satisfaction with time use. Relationships between time use, well-being and other measures of well-functioning. 
  • Time perspective: validation and further development of existing time perspective inventories (e.g. the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory). 
  • Well-being: studying the lay conceptions of well-being using qualitative methodologies.  Operationalisation of the construct of eudaimonic well-being.
  • Positive education: development and validation of educational programmes aimed at different aspects of optimal functioning.
  • Effects of well-being on cognitive, emotional and behavioural variables.

Dr Boniwell heads Positran www.positran.eu that provides specialised consulting services, training, and products in the areas of positive psychology, personal and organisational change, executive coaching, leadership, resilience and positive education. Current/recent assignments: assisting the Government of Bhutan in developing a UN framework for happiness-based public policy; developing a positive economy curriculum for a private HE institution; facilitation of co-development process for Bull; teaching time affluence in Microsoft; teaching positive psychology in Portugal, Iceland, Singapore and Japan.
