Fabrizio Manco

Senior Lecturer

Faculty:Faculty of Science & Technology

Department:Animal & Environmental Biology

Location: Cambridge

Areas of Expertise: Animal and Environmental Biology

Fabrizio is an ecologist whose research centres on GIS and spatial analysis in the context of biological studies, including movement ecology (animal tracking), habitat mapping and connectivity (remote sensing) and species distribution modelling.

After completing an MSc in Tropical Plants Ecology, Fabrizio worked as a researcher and assistant professor at the University Of Applied Sciences Of Changins (Switzerland), in the area of agriculture and biodiversity conservation. He then did Post Grade Certificate in Geomatics at the University of Geneva where he decided to focus on the use of GIS and spatial analysis tools. Fabrizio has since worked as a consultant for national and international conservation agencies. He was also hired as a spatial analyst in the context of fisheries and marine environments by CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science).

Since 2011, Fabrizio has been teaching GIS, spatial analysis and more general ecology-related subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He developed research and consultancy partnerships with the IUCN Maldives Marine Projects, but his main research activity is about chinstrap penguin foraging habitat modelling during brood at the South Orkney Islands, in partnership with the British Antarctic Survey.
