Students working in a seminar
In August 2008 a joint venture between Anglia Ruskin University and Peterborough Regional College was formally established to create University Centre Peterborough. The aim of the joint venture was to develop and deliver high quality university education for Peterborough and its surrounding region. University Centre Peterborough represents the single most important development in higher education in Peterborough's history and is core to the City's economic strategy.

The development of University Centre Peterborough has drawn funding from many agencies, including the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and is part the City's £350 million regeneration plans. The new University Centre is the first step in the City's vision that aims to create a large University campus at its heart within the next decade.

University Centre Peterborough offers a broad range of provision from HNC/D, foundation and postgraduate courses in over 30 different subjects including Archaeology, Construction, History, Sociology, the Performing Arts, Business, Law, Engineering and Computing. Currently University Centre Peterborough has around 850 students and next year, is due to grow over 50% having been successful in bidding for additional student places for 2010/11.

From November 2009 University Centre Peterborough students will occupy a new purpose built £10 million facility located on the College grounds. The ultra modern and contemporary 3,000 square metre build is a three-storey construction with a dedicated 92 seat lecture theatre, a range of multi-purpose / size seminar and teaching rooms, state of the art computer laboratories, a café and several student social areas.

The Centre seeks to augment Anglia Ruskin University's high status and growing reputation for delivering programmes relevant to the needs of a locality and engaging with the local community and workforce. HE courses delivered by the Centre will help local students acquire knowledge and skills relevant to the City's businesses, industries and public services. University Centre Peterborough will also provide services direct to the business community, aiding innovation, product and service development and the general 'up-skilling' of the local workforce. In addition to academic programmes and partnership working with local businesses, the University Centre seeks to support the civic development of Peterborough through support for local community groups, public events, professional bodies and businesses.
