Our dynamic and architecturally outstanding campus is set in the city's University and Innovation Quarter, which is just a short stroll from Chelmsford city centre. The campus borders the River Chelmer with its attractive green and lush surroundings and riverside paths.

Our history

Our Chelmsford campus can trace its roots back to 1893, when adult further-education classes for 50 students were held in Crane Court, Chelmsford. In 1904, Lord Rayleigh laid a foundation stone in Market Road, the first step towards creating purpose-built further-education buildings in Chelmsford.

Chelmsford campus today

With its stunning modern buildings, our Chelmsford campus, has all the facilities you will need for student life, including a large University Library, gym and sports halls, Students' Union and the student village.

Our Student Village is located on-site, facilities include a wide variety of accommodation (including our student village), shops, pharmacy, library, four cafés and coffee shops, laundrette, medical centre, gym, sports hall, fitness suite and outside pitches. Our students also enjoy campus-wide Wi-Fi.

Accommodation

Our Student Village is located on-site close to a small shopping area. Rooms are mainly en-suite with a shared kitchen.

University library

Our Chelmsford library has recently been re-developed, with a wide range of collections including open-access computers, quiet study areas, group study areas and bookable rooms.

Gym and sports hall

Facilities include Mildmay Sports Hall, Mildmay Fitness Suite, Sawyers Gym and access to outdoor and artificial pitches.

Marconi Building

Our £15 million Marconi Building has outstanding facilities and houses the Faculty of Science & Technology and Faculty of Arts, Law & Social Sciences. It has an amphitheatre, a mock law court and a 150-seat lecture theatre.

Postgraduate Medical Institute

Our Postgraduate Medical Institute is the brand new hub for postgraduate research. The building houses the two biggest lecture theatres on-campus, boasting state-of-the-art technology including a simulation suite which supports training of different professionals in a variety of simulated environments - from a patient?s home to the intensive care unit.

William Harvey Building

The Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education offers a series of modern suites in the William Harvey Building which offer hands-on training for midwifery, mental health and surgery.

Lord Ashcroft Building

The Lord Ashcroft International Business School (LAIBS), based in the award winning Lord Ashcroft Building is one of the largest business schools in the eastern region. The facility combines striking modern architecture with advanced learning technologies. LAIBS has built an enviable reputation as a centre of excellence for business and management and is well-known not only within the region but throughout the UK and in many other countries across the world. We have well-established partnership agreements with higher education institutions across Europe, North America, the Caribbean and Malaysia.

New Medical Business Innovation Centre in Essex (MedBIC)

MedBIC is a collaboration between Anglia Ruskin, Chelmsford City Council and Essex County Council. MedBIC is a new £6 million centre designed to support and help develop fledgling medical technology businesses. It will serve as a hub to assist in the creation and growth of a significant number of start-up and early-stage companies, as well as the development of wider innovation networks for Chelmsford, Essex and beyond.

The new facility will open in spring 2014 and is expected to be home to up to 78 businesses and create 120 jobs in its first three years of operating. Through the wider activities associated with the centre, at least a further 220 businesses will be assisted in terms of development and growth.

The Anglia Ruskin University MedBIC will house a suite of engineering research laboratories, 1,000m sq. of office and meeting space, business support services, and a student enterprise incubation space called the StartupLab.
