Travelling to Cambridge from overseas

Transport links by air

London Stansted Airport is located around 30 miles/48 kilometres from Cambridge. From the airport, Cambridge can be reached by road on the M11. London Luton is 38 miles (61 kilometres) away and Cambridge is also within easy reach of London Heathrow, London City and London Gatwick airports.

From Stansted Airport

  • By train: There is a direct train from Stansted Airport to Cambridge; please visit www.nationalrail.co.uk for timetables and more information.

From Luton Airport

  • By coach: Coaches run from Luton Airport on a regular basis; please visit www.nationalexpress.com for timetables and more details. You can buy a ticket online or at the National Express Office at the airport but you will need English money for this. The coach will bring you to Cambridge Coach Station on Parkside.

From Heathrow Airport

  • By coach: Coaches run from Heathrow Airport on a regular basis; please visit www.nationalexpress.com for timetables and more details. You can buy a ticket online or at the National Express Office at the airport but you will need English money for this. The coach will bring you to Cambridge Coach Station on Parkside.
  • By train: You have two options if you decide to make your way to Cambridge by train.
    1. Heathrow Express (www.heathrowexpress.com) - Fast, frequent trains operate from Heathrow to London Paddington. The journey time into central London is 15 minutes and the trains run every 15 minutes. Once you get to Paddington Station you will need to get the Tube to King's Cross Station; please see www.tfl.gov.uk for more information. Take the Circle Line towards Edgware Road. From King's Cross there are direct trains to Cambridge railway station.
    2. Underground - Tube trains operate every five minutes into central London with a journey time of approximately 50-60 minutes. Cost is £4. Get the underground from Heathrow Airport to King's Cross Station. From King's Cross there are direct trains to Cambridge railway station.

From Gatwick Airport

  • By coach: Coaches run from Gatwick Airport on a regular basis; please see www.nationalexpress.com for timetables and more details. You can buy a ticket online or at the National Express Office at the airport but you will need English money for this. The coach will bring you to Cambridge Coach Station on Parkside.
  • By train: Gatwick Express offers dedicated, high-speed travel between central London and Gatwick Airport with a journey time of just 30 minutes between Gatwick and London Victoria. From Victoria Station you will need to get the underground. Take the Victoria Line towards Walthamstow Central or Victoria Line towards Seven Sisters and get off at King's Cross Station. From King's Cross there are direct trains to Cambridge railway station.

From King's Cross Station

If you come into the country by rail - via the Eurotunnel through France - then you will arrive at King's Cross International station. Follow the signs to the main line station and take a train to Cambridge. The journey from King's Cross station to Cambridge Station will take between 50 minutes and just over 1 hour.

Transport links by sea

The east coast Port of Harwich is around one and a half hours drive (around 77 miles/124 kilometres) from Cambridge with Stena Line and DFDS operating regular trips to the Netherlands and Denmark.
