University English and Academic Development Programmes

Academic Services
Universities, schools and colleges in every part of the world face the same dilemma: if they are to grow and serve their nations, they must internationalise. Invariably, this means evaluating the systems they use, looking critically at the education and human resources and reconsidering the language in which they are taught.

Our programmes respond to this increasing worldwide need to train practitioners and teaching staff in universities to apply international standards to administration, teaching and learning, and to use the medium of English language as part of their teaching and personal development.

They are a lifeline both for newly-qualified Higher Education teachers who find themselves teaching in English, and for experienced teaching professionals looking to enhance the quality of their teaching through short programmes.

They will equip forward-looking and ambitious teaching, administrative and research staff with the language and professionalising skills to meet international standards of teaching and learning, enabling your institution to develop its links and exchanges and raise its international standing.

Continued Professional Development for teachers and lecturers

The micro skills classes and language skills classes will be classroom based, intensive student-centred activities. Education Management and Training will be a mixture of presentations, observation forums, workshops and practical design tasks in which the participants can put their ideas into practice. All aspects of the programme involve experienced practitioners and theorists from our departments.

Study visits and practical experience

As part of the professionalising course, participants will join coffee mornings with counterparts, visit local schools and institutions and have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with local practitioners.

Britain is your classroom

To complement our programme, we arrange social and cultural events to major attractions for overseas contracts. Cambridge is an ideal resource in this regard. Where possible we can arrange experience days in faculties and departments at universities, in which our clients would be able to observe lessons, track students and share ideas with their UK counterparts.

What we deliver

Our courses are bespoke, run from 2 to 24 weeks and offer the highest degree of flexibility. A typical week would involve 24 hours of classes over 4 or 5 days and one educational visit per week. We provide a full social programme and can arrange trips and longer expeditions to any of Britain's key sites, including London, Edinburgh, Bath and Stonehenge.

Participants on our courses have full access to the university's facilities and student accommodation right in the heart of the city of Cambridge, and a full range of free-time activities.

Module Clusters

The following are usually delivered as 6 hours of class time with additional hours of practical activities fine-tuned to the requirements of the participants. Any 2 modules can be extended to form a full course of one week (26 hours plus 25 hours practical activity).

Practical activities may involve case studies, observations, group or individual projects, background reading, additional online materials or teaching practice.
