Accommodation
If you have received your offer and you think you may need accommodation we would recommend that you visit our accommodation pages immediately to begin to organise this. Demand for accommodation can outweigh availability, early booking is therefore strongly recommended.
Application
Application forms can be downloaded from the Apply page and should be submitted to the Admissions Office along with:- Research proposal
- Copy of original transcripts of results
- Copy of degree certificate(s)
- 2 references on letter headed paper, signed and dated. We require 2 academic references to support applications for MPhil and PhD. Applicants for Professional Doctorates (LLD, DBA, EdD and PrD) are to provide 1 academic and one professional reference.
- Photocopies of passport, to include photograph and personal detail pages. International applicants currently residing in UK must also provide photocopies of visa and immigration stamps.
There is no deadline for applications, but please bear in mind that it can take up to 4 weeks to get a response and as such, applications should be submitted at least 1 month before the semester starts in either September or January.
Campus Location
Research degrees are offered at either our Chelmsford (Essex) or Cambridge (Cambridgeshire) campuses or at one of our University Centres. More information about each campus is available on our campus pages.

Interviews
An interview will be required with you before an offer is made - you will be contacted about this.
If you have a disability or learning support needs you may be contacted by one of our advisers or will receive communication from them shortly after receiving an offer. Please respond to any communications promptly to enable our Student Services to be able to assist you.
Offers
If you are made an offer this will either be:- Conditional - you will need to complete these conditions before your place is confirmed. Details of these conditions will be included in your offer letter.
- Unconditional - this means that you have satisfied the entry requirements and provided that you accept the offer, your place is confirmed.
Online Registration
If you are holding an unconditional offer you will be required to register online as a student shortly before the start of the semester. Details of online registration and research training dates will be sent to you.Once you have registered and provided a photograph you will receive your Student ID card.
Parking
Parking is not available at any of our main university teaching sites. We would recommend that you research alternative means of transport or parking facilities. More information about travelling to our campuses can be found on our Campus pages.
Processing Time
Research Degree applications can take up to 4 weeks to process due to the complexities of enusring the Faculty has relevant and available supervision. If you do not hear back within 4 weeks, please contact the Admissions Office to follow this up.

Research Degrees Offered
Anglia Ruskin offer the following types of research degrees:- Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
- Master of Philosophy with possibility of transfer to Doctor of Philosophy (MPhil / PhD)
- Doctor of Philosophy subject to confirmation of candidature (PhD)
- Professional Doctorate (LLD, DBA, EdD, PrD, MD)
- PhD by Publication
Start dates
Research study can start in either Semester 1 (September) or Semester 2 (January). You cannot start your study mid-semester and if you are offered a place, online registration must be completed before the second teaching week of your starting semester.
Studentship and GTA Positions
Studentship and GTA positions are advertised on the Human Resources job pages. You must complete the Research Degree Application form and submit this to the Admission Office to apply for these positions.You do not need to include a research proposal as this is provided by the Faculty, but you do need to submit a personal statement detailing your experiences and suitability for the post.
