Applying

Student reading books
We welcome full-time and part-time research students studying in a broad range of subject areas. Our research student community includes recent graduates, experienced academics and professionals and people returning to education after a break of several years.

Entry Requirements

To register for an MPhil/PhD (subject to candidature), you must normally hold a first or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent. To register directly for a PhD or Professional Doctorate, you must normally hold a Masters Degree or equivalent, that includes training in research. If you do not have these qualifications, your application will be considered on its merits in relation to the nature and scope of your proposed research.

Application process

There are 4 easy steps to applying for a research programme at Anglia Ruskin:

Step 1
Look through our research programme list and decide what research area you want to apply for.

Step 2
Complete the application form, and submit to the details given on the form, along with:
  • Research proposal
  • Copy of original transcripts of results
  • Copy of degree certificate(s)
  • 2 references on letter headed paper, signed and dated. We require 2 academic references to support applications for MPhil and PhD. Applicants for Professional Doctorates (LLD, DBA, EdD and PrD) are to provide 1 academic and one professional reference.
  • Photocopies of passport, to include photograph and personal detail pages. International applicants currently residing in UK must also provide photocopies of visa and immigration stamps.
Step 3
We process your application and let you know our decision.

Step 4
If we make you an offer, you respond by accepting, declining or deferring.

Note: You will usually be asked to attend an interview with your prospective Faculty. If you are offered a place we will write to you with full details of the offer criteria.

Application deadline: There is no deadline for applications, but please bear in mind that it can take up to 4 weeks to get a response and as such, applications should be submitted at least 1 month before the semester starts in either September or January.

If at any point in the process you need further help or advice please contact us.
