Students shortlisted for nursing scholarships

Three Anglia Ruskin University students have been shortlisted for prestigious scholarship awards run by national nursing charity Cavell Nurses' Trust.
Coral Homes-Gifford and Elizabeth Blamire have been shortlisted for the Outstanding Student Midwife Award, while Katie Horne is in the running for the Outstanding Student Nurse Award. The winners of both awards will receive a travel scholarship worth £1,500.Katie, aged 20, from Dovercourt in Harwich, is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) in Nursing (Child) in Chelmsford, while Coral, 35, is from Walton-on-the-Naze and is in the second year of a BSc (Hons) Midwifery degree in Chelmsford. Prior to enrolling at Anglia Ruskin, Coral worked for British Airways as a computer analyst.
Elizabeth, aged 36, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, is studying Midwifery at Anglia Ruskin's Fulbourn campus. The mother of two previously obtained a Development Studies and History degree from the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London, before working in content management for a large educational website.
A total of 22 candidates from across the country have been shortlisted for the five Cavell Nurses' Trust awards, and they will each be interviewed in London on February 8 by a panel of experienced nursing and midwifery professionals. The successful students will be presented with their awards at a ceremony at Fishmongers Hall in London on March 21.
Cavell Nurses' Trust, set up in memory of World War I nurse Edith Cavell following her execution in 1915, launched the Scholarship Awards last year with the aim of recognising exceptional student nurses and midwives.
The awards are designed to help nursing and midwifery students at the start of their careers and are open to students currently studying nursing or midwifery on undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma courses at universities in the UK.
Cavell Nurses' Trust has provided financial support worth more than £2.5 million over the last five years to thousands of working and retired nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and student nurses in need. For further information, please visit www.cavellnursestrust.org.
