Hayley Greenlee

University Certificate - Hearing Care Assistant

I work for my local Specsavers Opticians & Hearing Centre which has a strong connection with Anglia Ruskin University for Optometry qualifications. I am a hearing aid wearer myself (both ears) and can sympathise, and relate to real customer experience, therefore felt it would be a good qualification to have. My workplace involves an Audiology Department, and the practical work one day a week has been really beneficial as I quite often learn better through practical experience. The aspects of the course I most enjoy is the practical experience, as it helps prepare memore for the Hearing Care Assistant role, as well as gaining more knowledge.

This course will help me to move forward within Audiology and also become more flexible while at work by having the ability and knowledge to work with both sides of Specsavers - both optical & hearing. This is my first university course and the staff involved have been so helpful, supportive and welcoming. I settled down with my course sooner than expected, and the Learning Support Staff were brilliant with me.

Associated careers

The course will equip you with the skills necessary for working in a modern hearing aid audiology practice - you will study Professional Practice, and become proficient in Clinical procedures of Otoscopy, Audiometry, impression taking and tearing aid technology. Upon graduation and, you will be eligible to register with the The British Society of Hearing Aid audiologists (BSHAA) as an associate, which will enable you to practise without direct supervision and, if you wish, to continue your studies to become a Hearing Aid Audiologist.
