Course overview
This unique course is designed for students who wish to gain a wide variety of forensic knowledge across many fields, which will enable them to work in many areas within the criminal justice system. This course provides students not just with the theoretical and practical skills required of a crime scene examiner, but also familiarises them with criminological and criminal justice theories. Students will also gain an understanding of the different investigative techniques used by police and investigative services. Upon completion of the course, students will possess a range of transferable skills and techniques needed in the criminal justice system, which will place them ideally to gain employment in this sector.The specific aims of this course are:
- for you to be able to demonstrate an understanding of the UK legal systems and criminal law and the impact that these have on the investigation of different crimes;
- to develop your understanding of the main theoretical and practical skills of a forensic practitioner;
- to enable you to demonstrate an understanding of the main criminological and criminal justice theories in current use;
- for you to be able to demonstrate an understanding of the different investigative techniques used by police service;
- for you to undertake creative, rigorous and relevant research using appropriate methodologies;
- to prepare you to present reports in oral, written and other appropriate formats

Upon completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:- the subject;

- the major types of forensic science evidence;
- the principle techniques of forensic investigation and their application to criminal cases.
