Part-Time

Course overview

This 4-year part-time course is designed to provide you with the skills and theory required to enable you to work as a counsellor with children, adolescents and young people in a professional capacity. The Diploma HE provides comprehensive, professional clinical training in counselling children, adolescents and young people and aims to produce reflective practitioners who can understand and demonstrate the ethical and professional requirements of an effective counsellor.

The course will develop your knowledge and understanding using a range of contemporary literature covering areas such as child development, creative techniques, research and counselling skills. You will have the opportunity to integrate theory to practice in both your skills work and written assignments and develop the ability to critically evaluate contemporary practices in relation to working with children, adolescents and young people. A placement is required from year three, which enables you to gain experience and demonstrate your ability to work in a clinical setting.
