This course enables you to prepare for a career in business or commerce, by combining the study of the English language and its culture with a thorough grounding in business studies and an understanding of the mechanism of international business and trade. In addition you may begin a European language, Chinese or Japanese.International Business English students have the opportunity to participate in up-to-date, work placement and international exchange arrangements offered by the Lord Ashcroft International Business School, join the extra-curricular activities organised by, for example, the European Business Society and make use of our excellent computing and multimedia facilities.
Module guide
Year one core modules
Business English 1 and 2
This module aims to give you an introduction to specialist vocabulary relating to business topics and to revise essential grammar in a business context. Other aims are to practise taking notes from lectures, to increase reading speed and comprehension of business texts, to develop listening and speaking skills by taking part in discussions and listening to contributions in seminars from fellow you.
Introduction to Accounting and Finance
The module firstly aims to give you a sound grasp of the basics of financial reporting and introduces the principal concepts of financial accounting. The preparation of principal financial statements will also be explored. This module is also designed to introduce you to key management accounting skills necessary to support decision-making. It will emphasise the acquisition and application of skills and knowledge necessary to inform managers responsible for planning, decision-making and control and will provide the underpinning skills and knowledge required for more advanced study.
International Business In Focus
The main aims of this module are to provide you with an insight into the factors which affect general business behaviour in a constantly changing global environment. The module will discuss the nature of structural change in an economy and the factors which have accelerated such change including reasons for the growth of firms and how such corporate growth often leads to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and multinational activity. The main objectives of firms will be investigated and the strategic importance of pricing, advertising and product development emphasised.
Introduction to People, Organisations and Management
This module allows you to explore the organisational context and will furnish you with tools to analyse the organisational environment and the degree of dynamism and complexity in which organisations operate. Approaches to management from scientific management to postmodern organisations will be evaluated and the way groups and teams are formed and structured. This module will also investigate the difference between leadership and management and critically evaluate classical and contemporary approaches to leadership theory and the role power and politics play in organisational life.

Assessment
Personal Development Planning (PDP) is an integral part of assessment at Anglia Ruskin encouraging students to reflect, and evaluate, personal progress in the module and the degree course, and on the skills and abilities acquired in the degree course and their value outside the domain of academic literary studies.We use a wide range of assessments to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in the subject. Assessments may include essays, formal exams or oral presentations, but increasingly use portfolios which enable you to engage with the topics on both a theoretical and practical level.

Our campus libraries offer a wide range of publications and a variety of study facilities, including open-access computers, areas for quiet or group study and bookable rooms. We also have an extensive Digital Library providing on and off-site access to e-books, e-journals and databases.
We endeavour to make our libraries as accessible as possible for all our students. During Semester time, they open 24 hours a day from Monday to Thursday, until midnight on Friday and Saturday and for 12 hours on Sunday.
IT Resources
Our open access computer facilities provide free access to the internet, email, messaging services and the full Microsoft Office suite. A high speed wireless service is also available in all key areas on campus. If you are away from campus or a distant learner, our student desktop and its many applications can be accessed remotely using the internet. Your personal student email account provides free document storage, calendar facilities and social networking opportunities.
Throughout your studies you will have access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), providing course notes, reading materials and multi-media content to support your learning, while our e-vision system gives you instant access to your academic record and your timetable.
