“The BA Enterprise and Entrepreneurial management course is different to any other course due to its innovative ways of teaching with subjects that are much more interesting and relevant to the real life such as decision making and negotiation skills. In addition, the lectures and seminars are given by a mix of academics and seasoned entrepreneurs which allows for the students to get a much more realistic view of what entrepreneurship is and not just the theoretical side. One of the most original aspects of this course is the mentoring scheme that provides each student with an entrepreneur as a mentor. The mentor is available for the full 3 years which enables students to establish a relationship in the working world in a way that no other course does.

“The Learning in Residence module is not your normal work placement; I was given a real project with a chance to directly affect the company. It gave me a chance to apply what I have learnt from previous modules into a working environment. As a result, I'm going to be finishing university with the academic knowledge as well as valuable work experience, highly increasing my chances of success.

Module guide
Year 1 core modules
Foundations of Enterprise
This module will provide an introduction and theoretical underpinning to enterprise and entrepreneurship, tracing its development as a discipline and the key issues in current thinking.
Enterprise in Action
This module will provide an introduction to the behaviours, skills and knowledge required to enact enterprise and entrepreneurial management. In so doing, the module will complement the theoretical and conceptual understanding gained by the students through the Foundations of Enterprise module. The core to this module will involve developing an understanding of the key elements of designing and running the entrepreneurial organisation such as managing people and other stakeholders, raising finance and managing money, creating profile and generating awareness, selling, and taking either products or services to market.
Learning in Residence
This module will enable students to gain a better understanding of the entrepreneurial organisation and to develop the transferable skills, abilities and attitudes necessary for their own personal development and for future employability options within entrepreneurial contexts. Students will be introduced to learning theories in order to help them manage their own learning, both in university and 'in residence'. In order to demonstrate the achievement of the learning outcomes, the students will prepare a portfolio, the contents of which may be negotiated between the student, tutor and the host organisation, as appropriate. Students are found (unpaid) placements as part of this module and we aim to align student interests with firms, to the extent possible.
Year 2 core modules
Managing Tomorrow's Company
Building upon Year 1, particularly the Foundations of Enterprise module in Semester 1, this module will develop the students' understanding of the key activities, business functions and stages in managing and sustaining an entrepreneurial organisation. Running throughout the academic year, this module will focus on developing, testing and embedding understanding related to the key activities required to enact an entrepreneurial idea or opportunity.
Building Your Skills
This module aims to enable the student to function effectively as an independent self-learner within the higher education learning environment, with specific reference to the discipline of enterprise and entrepreneurial management. Students will be introduced to the learning context and the responsibilities of the individual learner. They will be supported to develop practical skills identified as being central to an enterprising offering within a higher education context.
Being Enterprising
Extending the themes developed during the Enterprise in Action module in Semester 1, this module will develop the students' process skills in terms of being enterprising and entrepreneurial. Through a combination of active taught input, live case study work and visits to entrepreneurial organisations, students will experience and gain an in-depth exposure to the process skills which underpin enterprising and entrepreneurial action.
Year 3 core modules
Learning by Doing (Major Project)
This module allows the students to engage in a substantial piece of individual or group research, consultancy or developmental work within the broad enterprise and entrepreneurial management field as appropriate to their interests and future employability aspirations. The module offers students considerable flexibility and scope to explore specific aspects of learning gained through Years 1 and 2 and elsewhere in Year 3. Students will be able to choose from four different types of project: creating and starting their own business through a supported initiative (e.g. Young Enterprise, Flying Start); creating and starting their own business; undertaking a piece of consultancy work for an enterprise; and undertaking a research project
High Level Skills Development
Building upon the Building Your Skills module in Year 2, and skills learnt elsewhere in the programme, this module will equip students with a set of appropriate 'higher-level' process and research skills required to function effectively within an enterprising context. This module will help ensure that the programme produced students who are self-confident, able to facilitate action, lead others and act both autonomously and as part of an effective team.
Foresights and Futures
This module will introduce a set of themes related to the role of enterprise and entrepreneurship in society and driving future change and development. A key part of the module will involve developing a set of future scenarios related to the importance of enterprise and entrepreneurship in the development of local, regional, national and supra-national economies. This will include a review of the current and future experiences of entrepreneurial organisations involved in international trade and trading in the global economy.

Some key actions undertaken by members of this network include:- Contributing to the delivery of the course through guest lecturer sessions, advising on appropriate module content
- Observing and assessing student presentations
- Acting as mentors to individual students
