Early Years Teacher Status

PG Cert

Full-Time
Early Years Teacher Status has been introduced to build upon the strengths of the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) programme. Early Years Teachers will be specialists in early childhood development, trained to work with babies and young children from birth to five.

Early Years Initial Teacher Training provides graduates within the workforce, or those aspiring to work with children, with the skills and opportunity to demonstrate excellent hands on practice with babies and young children from birth to five as well as developing the ability to lead and support the practice of others.

The Department for Education published 'More great childcare' in January 2013. This sets out the government's plans for improving quality in early education and childcare for 0-5 year olds. One of the government's key priorities is to raise the status and quality of the workforce. The plan of action to achieve this includes the introduction of Early Years Teachers from September 2013, building on the strengths of the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) programme.

Those that successfully complete Early Years Initial Teacher Training and meet the Teachers' Standards (Early Years) will become the first Early Years Teachers.
To achieve Early Years Teacher Status you will be assessed against a national set of standards. These standards cover the leadership and support of others as well as effective practice across three age ranges: 0-20 months, 16-36 months and 30-60 months.

Early Years Teacher Status is also designed to appeal to graduate career changers wishing to bring their leadership skills from other sectors into early years, aiding the growth of an excellent early years workforce.
