• Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Practice (60 credits at Level 7)

  This module will enable you to enhance and master the knowledge and skills to deliver safe and high quality aesthetic plastic surgery. You will be educated in the art of undertaking consultations that take into consideration the potential vulnerability of clients seeking and undergoing plastic and aesthetic surgery. Over a six month period, you will undertake one-to-one supervision with a qualified Consultant Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon who is a registered member of UKAAPS. During this time you will encapsulate your medical knowledge, interpersonal skills and professional standards through verbal communication, written documentation and collation of photographic evidence to support individualised patient care. In order to undertake this module you must be working in the field of aesthetic and plastic surgery and be fully accredited and registered with the GMC with a Plastic Surgery qualification or equivalent. You must hold your own indemnity insurance and you are advised to be a member of either UKAAPS or British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS). Assessment for the module will be through two viva examinations each covering seven case studies of aesthetic and plastic surgery procedures which may be undertaken from a set list of 14 procedures. You will also be expected to maintain a log of a minimum of 30 case studies of aesthetic and plastic surgery procedures undertaken during this module.

• Research Studies (30 credits level 7)

  This module encourages you to consider critically different types of evidence and use appropriate critical frameworks in assessing your relevance to policy and practice. It supports and always precedes the compulsory Major Project, enabling you to gain the knowledge and skills to conduct research in your own specialist area. While on this course, you will work with your preceptor in deciding a suitable topic area for your research project. This module will be delivered via distance learning.

• Major Project (60 credits level 7)

  Here, you will undertake a substantial piece of research in the area of your own practice. Graduates of this course have already produced some excellent pieces of research, some of which have been published. The focus of the Major Project can be either: a research Major Project in which you can investigate an issue within the sphere of practice. This can include: a qualitative study; a quantitative study; a study using a mixed method approach; experimental research; action research; or, a systematic review. Alternatively it can be a work-based Major Project designed to effect change within your organisation. This can include: an audit; service evaluation; evidence-based practice project; or any other work-based project that is not classed as 'research'. You will work with your preceptor in deciding a suitable topic area for your Dissertation. Your preceptor will also act as your first supervisor with a member from the academic team as your second supervisor.

• Advancing Professional Decision Making (30 credits level 7)

  This module will provide knowledge and skills to complement and scaffold the compulsory core module. You will be introducing your new and advanced plastic and aesthetic surgery techniques into high-level clinical practice areas so are required to have good leadership and management skills to take this innovative practice forward. In addition, it will advance your decision-making skills through critical reflection particularly in the area of advanced organisational practice. The demands of modern healthcare systems require the development of roles for confident autonomous organisational practitioners, who possess the knowledge and skills to implement complex decisions in a rapidly changing health sector environment and to play key roles in service development. This is particularly important in advanced organisational practice and you will be encouraged to focus on new or advanced areas of service developments and consider issues such as ethics, legislation and quality assurance. You will contextualise these skills to your own area of service and expertise. This module will be delivered via distance learning.
