Working with People in Situations of Loss

Level 3

15 Credits

This module recognises that loss is a significant feature in many health and social care situations. Professional health and social care workers must be enabled to understand and support those persons undergoing the experience of loss. Whilst most healthcare workers are familiar with attachment, separation and loss theory, many feel anxious when clients are in need of empathy and support.

Within this module we create an atmosphere, conducive to exploring, empathising and understanding situations of loss and enable students to apply appropriate strategies within their practice.

The module will be assessed through a 3000 word essay about a situation of loss/bereavement.

Content

  • Attachment, separation and loss
  • Loss across the life span and influences of contemporary society upon anticipatory grieving, grieving and adjustment to loss.
