Basic Counselling Workshop

Workshop

This workshop will introduce participants to the basic theory and practice of counselling. It is designed to develop interpersonal skills within the workplace and is therefore particularly suitable for anyone who has contact with members of the public in their job or those who work in the caring professions.
You will be introduced to two models of counselling and the skills that are needed to work effectively in a listening capacity with people in the workplace.
The models you will be introduced to are the person centred model of Carl Rogers and the Skilled Helper model created by Gerald Egan

The course will include:

  • What is counselling and what it is not
  • The key skills of effective and active listening
  • Application of basic counselling skills in the workplace
  • How to develop the core conditions of counselling
  • Developing skills for effective communication in some common challenging situations

This five-day workshop is experiential and all participants will need to undertake the exercises offered in order to maximise their learning on the course. At the end of the programme there will be opportunity to audit your skills and learning and plan further personal development.
