Post Anaesthetic and Acute Care
Level 5 and 6
30 Credits
There is a need for health care professionals to be able to deliver safe standards of patient care during critical phases throughout the patient care pathway. The aim of this module is for the student to work within acute areas and the post anaesthetic care area.
The student will be involved in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to a wide range of patients. The students will develop specialist knowledge and skills for use in these areas by identifying altered physiology following surgical intervention and clinical emergencies. Students will be responsible for the assessment of levels of consciousness and pain, identifying and responding to clinical emergencies and post anaesthetic complications.
The module will provide relevant theoretical input to achieve a thorough understanding of the management of the post-anaesthetic patient.
There are three elements to the assessment for this module, a pharmacology examination, production of an information leaflet with supporting commentary and completion of clinical competencies in practice.
