Principles of Palliative Care

The course offers an introduction to the principles of palliative care where the holistic needs of patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses are considered. Communication, symptom management and holistic care are key themes explored throughout the module. You will be encouraged to develop knowledge and skills to enable you to identify the need for and apply the principles of palliative care to individuals and their families in any setting.

Target audience

Any registered health care professional working with patients/clients with a life limiting illness resulting in palliative care needs.

  • Registered nurses working in hospital trusts, nursing homes or the community
  • AHPs working in hospital trusts and the community and accessing nursing homes.

Assessment

A 6000 word essay analysing the palliative care provided to the patient and their family.
