Pain Management

This module is designed to meet the needs of Registered Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and other Health Care Professionals currently employed in an area, either in hospital or community setting, where Pain Management forms part of the workload.
This module explores the theoretical explanations for the physical, social and psychological aspects of pain. Therapeutic care for pain is considered; both from pharmacological and non-pharmacological perspectives. Innovative practice is analysed in terms of the multi-professional approach and students will be encouraged to apply their knowledge within their own area of practice throughout the module.
This module can be stand alone or part of the Long Term Conditions Pathway.

Assessment
The module comprises of eight taught study days and students will attend the lectures, participate in student-led seminars and problem based learning. The module will be taught by an inter-professional team constituting a senior lecturer in pain, bioscience lecturer and other multidisciplinary members from practice and within the University.
