Non Medical Prescribing

Following successful completion of this module, qualified Nurses and Pharmacists are now able to prescribe any licensed medicine for any medical condition within their competence, including some Controlled Drugs.
A chiropodist, podiatrist, radiographer or physiotherapist registered with the HPC may also undertake training to qualify as a supplementary prescriber.

Target audience
Admission to the module is dependent on the following criteria:- Three years qualified for nurses & AHPs, two years for pharmacists with professional registration
- A clinical need for prescribing
- Sufficient knowledge of the practice area in which prescribing will take place
- A current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check
Nurses and midwives should be assessed by their employer as competent at history taking, assessment and diagnosis, or if not, should undertake a module to meet this requirement at the same time.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate appropriate numerical skills.
Assessment
