Antenatal and Newborn Screening

Level 6

30 Credits

This Distance Learning module is aimed at practitioners who wish to explore the issues that impact on the screening that is offered to women and their families in the antenatal and newborn period. You will consider the conditions currently screened, the National Screening Committee, ethical issues, communication, information giving and the parents' perspective on screening. The module is taught over 15 weeks entirely online, and utilises the rich variety of information that is available on the Web. You will need to have internet access for at least five hours each week, and reasonable IT skills. Tutorial support is provided through discussion boards on the module, email and or telephone support.

Assessment

The assessment is a case study and reflective writing about the impact of antenatal and newborn screening on the family, and the role of the health professional.
