NPQH, NPQSL, NPQML
From September 2012 the Anglia Ruskin Leadership Development Alliance has been awarded the license to deliver the National College Leadership Curriculum courses:
The Anglia Ruskin Leadership Alliance combines the expertise of practicing leaders from outstanding schools, with Anglia Ruskin University's significant experience of delivering high-quality, professionally accredited CPD programmes across the Eastern and London region.
Programmes are delivered by a blended learning method with one day face-to-face training per module at local school venues. National College scholarships are available.
- National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
- National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
- National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML)

NPQH
The NPQH is the qualification of choice for experienced leaders, aspiring to a headship or equivalent position within an educational organisation including: schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies and free schools. The programme is also suitable for experienced leaders working outside of education, looking to move into a headship role within an educational organisation. You should be no more than 12-18 months from applying for headship posts and have the full support of your headteacher or line manager.
NPQSL
The NPQSL has been developed for leaders who are leading beyond a team within an educational organisation including: schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies, free schools and education consultants. This could include:
NPQML
The NPQML has been developed for those leading a team within an educational organisation, including: schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies, free schools, and education consultants.The Level 1 modules are suitable for a wide range of leaders and aspiring leaders including:

- Deputy or assistant heads
- Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)
- Senior leaders in a federation with responsibility for areas across several schools or with responsibility for supporting other schools
- Experienced middle leaders keen to take up a senior leadership role, particularly those either waiting to take up a post or applying for one
- Senior leaders working in schools and academies who are not qualified teachers (for example, bursars, HR officers) wanting to broaden their knowledge and understanding of aspects of school/academy leadership.
NPQML
The NPQML has been developed for those leading a team within an educational organisation, including: schools, nursery schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), secure units, academies, free schools, and education consultants.The Level 1 modules are suitable for a wide range of leaders and aspiring leaders including:
- Those who have recently taken on a middle-leadership role or a new responsibility
- Leaders more established/experienced in their role, looking to develop their leadership skills Individuals who are ambitious and seeking promotion to a middle-leadership role
- Individuals with responsibilities and accountabilities which are traditionally associated with middle leadership roles including:
- Subject/curriculum leaders
- Head of key stage
- Head of department
- Pastoral leaders, for example head of year /head of house
- Gifted and talented co-ordinator
- Advanced skills teacher
- Assessment co-ordinator
- Career co-ordinator
