Care of the Person with Chronic Kidney Disease
Level 6
45 Credits
The aim of this module is to provide nurses with the opportunity to explore and develop knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the person with renal failure, his/her family and carers. The module will address the needs of the person with chronic kidney disease and the needs of the person receiving peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis.
The module is based on the belief that the individual has the right to dignity, respect and to receive specialist care. In order to receive effective and high quality care, the renal patient and his/her family are dependent on effective teamwork, communication and clinical decision-making. The role and contribution of the specialist nurse will be explored in relation to the multidisciplinary team. The module incorporates a component of inter-professional learning that will be available as individual, standalone study days.
