High Dependency and Intensive Care of the Newborn
Level 5 and 6
45 Credits
This is a taught programme comprised of 12 study days
This theory/practice module is intended for registered nurses and registered midwives, who are working in a high dependency or intensive neonatal care setting. It includes theoretical and practical components to enable you to explore the concept of high dependency and intensive care, and to respond to the holistic needs of infants and their families. You will be encouraged to review the provision of high dependency and intensive neonatal care, and critically reflect upon your own practice, in the light of supporting evidence and national health policy directives. Using a critical approach to contemporary evidence, you will consider and critically analyse nursing and medical interventions that may be used in a high dependency or intensive care setting, to ascertain appropriateness and effectiveness, and best practice.
It can be taken as part of the BSc (Hons) Children and Young People degree pathway, as part of the Graduate certificate in Special and Intensive Care of the Newborn or as a stand alone module.
