Facilitating Groups in Health and Social Care Settings

Level 6

30 Credits

The facilitation of therapeutic and work groups is an essential skill for many health and social care professionals, workers and practitioners, who work with a wide range of clients. Service users and informal carers, who run self-help groups, will also benefit from such facilitation skills. Effective group work enables people to support and learn from each other in a safe and cohesive environment. Through skilful facilitation, group participants are able to empower themselves and have a greater say in their own lives. This module will be of value to facilitators in the mental health field and other health and social care settings, who wish to work creatively with groups. It will be tailored, as much as possible, to your specific needs and work environment. You will be expected to reflect on your own practice and share your experiences.

Target audience

The module is offered at both level two and three to ensure health & social care workers with varying experience can undertake the module.

Assessment

No more than 6,000 words. The assessment for the module requires students to set up and run a group in practice.
