Examination of the Newborn

Level 6

30 Credits

To meet the challenges of continually changing maternity and health care provision, this unique and dynamic module offers specialist professional learning opportunities to Midwives, Health Visitors and Neonatal Nurses. This innovative module responds to the evolving scope of professional practice. The module seeks to promote the role of the neonatal nurse and usefully add to the continuing professional development opportunities available.

The module uses a wide variety of student-centred teaching and learning strategies which recognise and value students' pre-existing professional expertise and practical skills. The module emphasises the skills-based components, and work-based learning is an important feature. Students will be supported in practice by experienced clinical staff, paediatricians and lecturers.

A Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) programme and practice document will be utilised to support your learning throughout the module. The theory / practice link is facilitated by experienced clinical mentors and all students are allocated a personal tutor. You may negotiate elective visits to meet your particular professional learning needs.
