English and Culture Summer School
This course is for anyone who wants to improve their English and discover today's Britain at the same time. You will experience university teaching and our excellent campus facilities while enjoying all the possibilities of a summer in beautiful Cambridge. About Anglia Ruskin University's Language Services Unit
All our teaching staff are highly qualified and our English Language courses have British Council accreditation. Our lessons make full use of technology, and this course is designed to give you the maximum amount of practice. We take care to provide you with the right course for your level of English and classes are small to make sure you have close attention from your tutors. You have full access to our university's learning resources and facilities during your time here, so you have the maximum opportunities to make progress!Content
(NB The exact content of the course is subject to change depending on student numbers)English Language Development (15 lessons per week)
This part of the course will focus on English language skills. Our highly qualified staff will work on a different skill each day, with vocabulary and discussion throughout the classes. Our lessons will have extension activities supported by our Virtual Learning Environment so you can gain maximum language learning experience. The University Library is open 24 hours.
British life (5 lessons per week)
This part of the course will focus on key areas of British life and culture. There will be a lecture each day in the morning and discussions on three afternoons per week. These lectures will really help you understand modern British society. Each week will follow a different theme, and typical examples might be:
- Week 1: British Institutions: Political System, Education, The Press
- Week 2: British regions and English dialects, Entertainment and music
- Week 3: British customs (linguistic and social)
- Week 4: Daily life (sport, shops, food etc.)
All our lectures are recorded using lecture capture, so you can watch them as many times as you wish.
Trips & Excursions
The course includes:- A trip to Granchester's world famous Orchard tea rooms
- A guided tour of historic Cambridge
- Punting on the river Cam
- A day trip to London
- A day trip to Ely
- A day trip to Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon
Other trips are available at extra cost and you are welcome to join any other university activities you wish, subject to their terms and conditions.

Entry requirements
To join this course you will need to:-have a student visitor visa
-be aged eighteen and over at the course start date
-have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
Applications, Fees and Deposits
We have simplified the course by charging one fee for the teaching, activities and accommodation of £1600 which includes:- All tuition fees and learning materials
- Accommodation
-Full use of the library, Language centre, the online study resources, computers, Internet, email and media resources
-Full access to the campus resources: gym, leisure facilities, Student Union activities, medical centre and Student Services
-To reserve your place on the course you must pay a deposit of £600 when you apply.
-We advise you to book as soon as possible as places are strictly limited. You can pay the balance of £1000 online.
-We will reserve accommodation for you. If you do not need accommodation or wish to make your own arrangements please contact us at efl@anglia.ac.uk
-Your application is not complete until full payment has been received. We will notify you when your place is confirmed

Cancellation and Refund Policy
- Refunds are only available on cancellations made in writing and received at least 28 working days before the course start date and are subject to a £25 administrative charge.
- Cancellations received after this time will not be refunded unless we are able to fill the place. If we are able to fill the place a refund will be made but will be subject to the cancellation fee of £25.
- Refunds may take 28 working days or more to be processed through our accounts.
- Refunds, transfers or substitutions are not permitted once a course has started under any circumstances. We strongly recommend that you take out personal insurance against any unforeseeable circumstances.
