English with Academic Skills (6-month course)
This course is designed for students who want or need to improve their English language before
further study. Your in-depth learning will be relevant to your chosen area of study providing the best possible preparation for your degree course.

Course detail
Progression: Successful completion will raise your IELTS score by 2-2.5 points. In order to successfully complete the course you need to attend a minimum of 85% of the course and have a minimum pass rate of 50% in our tests.Content
English language development (15 sessions* per week) This part of the course will focus on English language skills and grammar. You will work on each of the different skills, reading and writing, listening and speaking, with vocabulary and discussion being incorporated throughout the classes.Subject specific study (5 sessions* per week) This part of the course will focus on key areas of relevant to your specific area of study, science, technology or business.
These include:
- Lecturers by subject specialists and guest lecturers
- Visits to leading research institutions such as the Sanger Insttiute and Microsoft Research Cambridge**
- Visits to leading business such as Mercedes Benz and ARM (world-leading IP company)
Contact hours
You will be taught or undertake academically relevant visits for 25 sessions* per week in total with additional time allocated to private study and research.Activities
A range of activities are available to our students at a small extra cost. Activities may include**:- Guided tour of Cambridge colleges
- Punting on the river Cam
- Day trip to London

Fees: £5950
In order to reserve your place on the course we require a deposit of £1000. The balance of the fees must be paid on or before the first day of term. The full fee must be submitted with late applications. The deposit is part of the fee.

Entry requirements
To join this course, you will need:- Either a student visitor visa or a Tier 4 student visa.
If you intend to progress from this course to an Anglia Ruskin degree you will need:
- A SELT test, for example IELTS, at the following level:
IELTS band 4.5, with 4.5 in all four bands, if you are going to start a Postgraduate degree
- A conditional offer for your course at Anglia Ruskin University.
All applicants must be 18 years or over at the course start date.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Fees and deposits are non-refundable once you have been accepted on the course(s) unless:- The course you wanted to take is not running
- You are unable to obtain a visa (evidence must be shown)
- Your situation has changed (serious illness/death in the close family - certificates required)
In the last two cases above, there is a non-refundable administration charge of £50 per cancellation.
