Practice in Contraceptive and Reproductive Sexual Health

Level 6

15 Credits

Practice in Contraception and Sexual Reproductive healthcare is a CPD course offered by Anglia Ruskin University from its Essex and Cambridgeshire campuses. It addresses the training and educational needs of nurses who are seeking practical training in emergency contraception, contraceptive methods and sexually transmitted infections. Applicants must previously have completed the theory based module Issues in Contraception and Sexual Reproductive Healthcare.

Applicants must have arranged a placement with a mentor in a Contraception and Sexual health clinic before applying for the module (see Features for further information).

Target audience

Nurses who have first completed the Issues in Contraceptive and reproductive Sexual health module.

Placement

This module requires a 42 hour clinical placement with a mentor in a Contraception and Sexual health clinic. Applicants should have approached a mentor and gained their agreement before applying. If an honorary contract, CRB check, Occupational health check or mandatory training is required by the clinic before taking up a placement, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that these pre-requisites are in place.
Any costs involved will be incurred by the applicant or employer.
The module leader will be able to supply the contact details of clinics which are routinely used for placements on this module (see email contact details for the module leader). Alternatively a clinic near the applicant's usual place of work may be used but an educational audit visit will need to be carried out beforehand to ensure that it is a suitable setting for completion of the skills portfolio. This should be discussed with the module leader before applying for the module.

Assessment

Students will be required to complete a skills inventory in order to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes and clinical expertise. This should be supported by evidence from the reflective diary and learning contract within the portfolio.
