Community Formulary Prescribing V150

This module aims to prepare Nurses and Midwives to prescribe as Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribers, from the Nurse prescribers Formulary (NPF). The module also aims to provide an opportunity for inter-professional debate and networking about safe prescribing practice and its contribution to healthcare.

Entry Criteria:

  • A first level nurse or midwife registered with the NMC with at least three years post-registration experience of which the year immediately preceding commencement must be within the clinical area in which the candidate will be practising as a Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber
  • Employer commitment and support
  • Provision of a Designated Nurse Prescriber as Mentor (Practising Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber (V100)
  • Able to demonstrate appropriate numeric skills
  • Able to provide evidence of assessed as competent to take a history, undertake a clinical assessment and diagnose.

Assessment

Assessment is via an examination (20 MCQ and short answer questions), and submission of the portfolio which includes a case study, completion of the practice placement of 65 hours with the designated mentor and achievement of competencies.
